Frequently Asked Questions

What is GMT?

Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) is the mean solar time at the Royal Observatory in Greenwich, London. In practice, GMT and UTC are the same time, though UTC is the modern technical standard.

Is GMT the same as UTC?

For practical purposes, yes. GMT and UTC show the same time. The difference is that UTC is defined by atomic clocks and is the international standard, while GMT is a timezone historically defined by astronomy.

Does GMT change for Daylight Saving Time?

GMT itself does not change. However, the UK switches to BST (British Summer Time, UTC+1) during summer. When people say 'GMT' in summer, they often mean BST. This converter uses Europe/London which accounts for BST.

How It Works

This tool runs entirely in your browser using vanilla JavaScript. No data is sent to any server. All conversions and calculations happen locally on your device, ensuring complete privacy.

EpochPilot uses the browser's built-in Intl.DateTimeFormat API and the IANA timezone database provided by your operating system. This means timezone conversions are always accurate, including Daylight Saving Time transitions.
